LYDIA PINKHAM'S REMEDIES

Lydia Pinkham grew up in 19th century New England and ,once she settled down as a wife and mother, started to make home remedies. These remedies were just for her family but soon her neighbors for her concoctions. Once Lydia’s husband, Isaac Pinkham, lost all him money through bad business deals, she started taking money for the medicine she used to give away.

The medicine wasn’t any better than anything else available, but Lydia Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound and her other products were made popular through shrewd advertising and promotion. Mrs. Pinkham concentrated on marketing to mothers and wives like herself. The company also encouraged their customers to write to them and the company would reply with medicine and other issues. There have been many different trade cards and magazine ads for the Pinkham products and these are some examples.
